Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announces his patronage for Manifesta 16 Ruhr

The Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has assumed the patronage of Manifesta 16 Ruhr.

The following is stated in the letter from the Head of the Office of the Federal President:

“The Federal President welcomes the organisation of Manifesta 16 Ruhr in the Ruhr Area and is very pleased to assume the patronage of this biennial. By choosing secularised churches – former places of community and togetherness – as exhibition venues, it points to a ‘void’ in our society and certainly strikes a chord with audiences –not only through the art presented and the well-selected church buildings, but also through its intention to turn these churches once again into places of exchange and dialogue. ”

We are delighted by this distinguished patronage, which further highlights the international significance of the Manifesta Biennial for contemporary art and culture in Europe.
