As part of Manifesta 16 Ruhr, the Weberei Kai collective invited four interns to take part in the “School of Weaving” at the Thomaskirche in Gelsenkirchen.

Over the course of four weeks, they explored the craft and practice of weaving through hands-on learning, collective work and experimentation. From warping and setting up the looms to tapestry weaving, they developed practical skills while also creating their own textile works and pursuing individual ideas.

The “School of Weaving” was more than a place to learn traditional techniques. It became a shared space for exchange, experimentation and artistic practice, where knowledge was passed on collectively and new approaches to working with textiles could emerge.
